Employment History

Jim Hondros completed his double degree in physics and computer science in the early 1980’s before moving to the remote mining township of Roxby Downs to commence a role as a radiation safety technician working for Mark Sonter. During almost 12 years there at Olympic Dam, Jim completed a Masters in Applied Science and also was promoted, taking on further roles within the company. Jim’s final role was as Superintendent Safety, Health and Environment. When he left the operation, Jim and his wife Rose shifted to Victoria to take a corporate environmental role in Pasminco, an international lead-zinc. During Jim’s 6 years with Pasminco a range of senior management roles were undertaken, including as Pasmincos’ Divisional Manager OHS and also in an operational role as Senior Manager Community Relation and Environment for the Century Mine Project. This role involved working directly in remote communities.

Following Pasminco, in 2002, Jim and his wife established JRHC Enterprises – a multipurpose consultancy company with operates today. The company provides services to the mining industry in a range of areas from risk management through to environmental management and OHS. Jim has undertaken extensive international work in such countries as Japan, Sweden, Austria, Jordan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Brazil and Bulgaria.

He has undertaken a number of governance roles including as board member and/or chair of various community, environmental, Indigenous and health related organizations.

Jim strengths are in project management and he has always been good at working across different cultures both within an organization and in society in general, converting the complex into the understandable. He also maintains a deep interest in systems, including expert systems and in distributed knowledge networking.

Space has always been a passion for Jim, and he was part of Mark Sonters original Asteroid Enterprises in the 1980’s and also part of Beyond Earth Resources Pty Ltd and has a particular interest in the philosophy of space development.

Jim’s resume is extensive and available upon request.
